What's in the cookie jar?

There's a story behind this cookie jar.

It's kinda long, but I'll try to make it short.

Back in May, I fell in love with this tiger oak antique bookcase while browsing at a local antique mall. (I blogged about it here: A Place for the Quilts)

To recap, for years, I had been looking for the perfect thing to hold the heirloom quilts in my collection. This passed the test with flying colors. I told The Man that I wanted/needed this piece desperately and, eventually, he said ok let's get it. (He can be really nice when he wants to be.)

We came home with the hutch and I was plumb giddy with excitement. The quilts fit perfectly; it looked exactly as I imagined. 

On the top, I placed a couple of old items that have been in my family a long time. The radio was purchased 25 years ago at a remnant shop in Mississippi, and the glass cookie jar was handed down from my great-grandmother.

And that's what this rambling post is about ... the cookie jar.

At first, it remained empty. I knew I wanted something sewing-related in it, but it didn't seem right for buttons (and I already had two antique mason jars full of buttons). So ... I went on a treasure hunt. I would know it when I saw it.

And a few months later, there it was. At another antique mall, in a booth filled with nothing but vintage sewing items and notions, I spied old crochet thread, and thread on wooden spools. Woo-Hoo!

The price was right, so I purchased a few things for the cookie jar ...

... and smiled all the way home.

Give me something old and I'm one happy girl.
