Whoever said, “The road home is never long,” had never driven across Texas, let me tell ya! The last two days of our extended vacation was spent, literally, driving across the good old Lone Star State a trek we’ve made a number of times before, and in case you’re wondering, every stinking mile is still there.
But—cue the Hallelujah Chorus!—after seven weeks of being on the road, the girl is home!
If you’ve ever been away from home for seven weeks straight (or thereabout), you know how I felt when I walked through the front door of my little home yesterday afternoon. Ahhhhhhhh ... I'm home.
No matter how exhilarating an extended vacation may be (and ours was pretty amazing), or the myriad places the road may take you, there’s just no place like home.

As I walked from room-to-room, I found comfort in the familiar.
The old seemed, in an odd way, new.
And the simple things that I love so, still made me smile.
Home.
It has a way of grounding you.
It's who you are.
It’s where you belong.

~I know what you mean! The smell of the familiar, everytime we go somewhere for an extended time, our youngest son (15 yrs.) walks in and says "the smell of home". So glad you made it home safely.
ReplyDeleteHome sweet home! Nothing like it. Glad you enjoyed your trip and are now back home safely. I do hate that drive across TX for sure. But it's always worth it when you get home.
ReplyDeleteThat is one loooooog vacation!
ReplyDeleteI like how you say it, "It's where you belong",
how true.

ReplyDeleteWelcome home! I sure can relate to your happy feelings. Home Sweet Home :)
ReplyDeleteI loved the tour of "home" for you. I like how you stored your quilts in such a cozy way... so that you could see the colors and get tickled with the possible patterns.
ReplyDeleteSo welcome home............
I love this last photo!!! No matter how nice the accommodations, there's nothing can compare to one's very own bed. :)
ReplyDeleteThis heartwarming post arrived on the heels of my reading a VERY different blog which possessed this one-line impactor: "droolworthy home." The two posts inspired me to share a post of my own about HOME.
ReplyDeleteDayle! I don't NEED droolworthy. At home, I need love, warmth, and as you said, to "belong." I guess if we chopped up that word, we "long" to "be" home.
The images of your home are stirring, calming and pleasing. My heart sighed. She's a sentimental gal, that heart of mine, and she knows beauty when she sees it. A very warm welcome HOME!
And that drive across Texas? Girl! Know it well! Every stinkin' mile! Ha! Wouldn't change it for the world. Lots of love for me and mine in Texas!

ReplyDeleteI loved seeing the corners of your home. No wonder you love it.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great trip, and glad you are home! I can relate - I'm a homebody, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Home! Our summer vacations to the States usually last 6-8 weeks. We didn't make the trek this year though. That plane flight over just seems to get longer and longer. And once there, we have to go from one place to another as everyone is spread out. Gets a bit stressful after a while. It's always good to be in your own space. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful home. I love your tea cup clock, along with the quilts & jar of buttons. Familiar & reassuring. I used to routinely spend 4-6 weeks away with my last job. It was very disruptive and uncomfortable. Glad your still posting. Best wishes Julie
ReplyDeleteYou have captured here exactly how I feel each day I return to my home after work. I love the comfort of familiar and place. Both together is where I always long for. I'm not a great wanderer - though I love a good getaway - like our Amish Country trip last weekend. But, there is a special joy reserved for the first night snuggling home after a trip away.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're back, safe and joyful.
Joy!
Kathy
