On Memorial Day, The Man and I had my family over (those that could make it) for burgers and dogs on the grill. I think you will agree that being with family is one of life's greatest simple pleasures. We ate and laughed and talked the hours away, all between snapping pictures of those in attendance.
My favorite photo was this one of the cousins: my daughter (on the right), my two nieces, and my precious great-niece (check out her toes, if you will). Even though they live in the same town, it's getting harder to get the girls together, what with various work schedules, so when it happens, and I manage to get a picture of them, well, that's something to smile about.

On an editorial note: I'm considering discontinuing this party through the summer months, but haven't made up my mind. I would appreciate your input in the comments section regarding that. And if you would be interested in hosting this party (like ever), I'd be delighted to hear from you, as well.

That is so wonderful you can have your family over. My son goes to college in KY and we are in CA. Sometimes I long for him to come. He is coming for almost three weeks though over the summer so that will definitely be my simple pleasure!
ReplyDeleteLook at those four beautiful faces (and baby toes)! Getting together with them all must have been a very big simple pleasure!
ReplyDeleteLove this, Dayle. Spending time with family is so special and I was privileged to be able to do that also.
ReplyDeleteI understand about the party - summers can be busy, but of course we always need to be reminded to slow down and enjoy our Simple Pleasures.
I would consider being an occasional host.
Blessings,
Joan
PS - Love the photo of the girls and the baby toes are so cute.
Good for you! ... Making sure your Next Generation make time for one another!
ReplyDeleteSince our parents are now passed, I can't recall the last time I saw any of my cousins. Suppose I'm (wrongly) assuming, there will always be time.
Love those precious toes! :)
A wonderful simple pleasure! You and your sisters all have girls?
ReplyDelete@ Southern Gal - Yes, Renee. Three girls all had a girl, and one of those girls had a girl. Can't seem to get a single boy. :(
ReplyDeleteI read that you had some great watermelon! (haha)
ReplyDeleteLook at those beutiful young ladies and baby.
I bet the day went fast. It always does when you are with the ones you love.
Love our family!
ReplyDeleteI agree simple family gatherings are the best.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling....fortunately, when our two sons came to visit for the first time together in 2 1/2 years, they loved getting together with their three "girl" cousins, with whom they grew up.
ReplyDeleteThere is no greater pleasure on earth than having the family together! We were not able to spend Memorial Day together because of youngest's work schedule, but we made up for it tonight! Made my heart sing. Especially now that youngest lives on his own :(
ReplyDeleteYour family photo is soooo cute. Those pretty girls and those tiny toes. Sure to produce a smile!
I'll be gone part of the summer or I'd volunteer to help out unless there is a way to share it with someone else.
Thanks, Dayle, for doing this.
Blessings,
Janis
Delighted to have found your blog through Happier Than a Pig In Mud blog. Love it and your Simple Pleasure Concept. As a fellow writer type am loving blogging and having my first blog party at DearHelenHartman.com tomorrow and has my stomach in knots, so that's saying, totally understand wanting a break - I want one and haven't even had a link party yet!

ReplyDeleteFamilj och vänner är det viktigaste i livet. jag har förmånen att få besök av mina föräldrar varje vecka. Gud ske pris att att telefonen finns. Det är svårt att pricka in när alla har tid. All the girls are so beautiful! I enjoyed your photos on fb too. Looks like a fun day was had by all!
ReplyDeleteI so agree that being with family is a great pleasure ...nothing like grilling with the family.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been blogging too much, but in the Summer, I will have a little more time to blog, than I did in the Spring. I understand you wanting a break. Simple Pleasures is one of the best things about blogging. I'm glad others have volunteered to host, and if you tell me how, I will probably be able to help, too.
ReplyDeleteLove your post, as always! Great pictures! I need a family reunion, too! Thank you for all of your sharing!
Their is no greater simple pleasure then spending time with family...Smiles, Love and Laughter!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovley way to spend the day. Such great pictures ~ very cute!. Thank you for hosting.(-:
ReplyDeleteYes, a lovely way to spend a day. Pleasures of the best kind!
ReplyDeleteI tried to comment earlier, but Blogger was being temperamental! I love the cousin picture and the sweet baby toes are so sweet.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you host this. I know summer is hard in some ways, but simple pleasures is well, so simple - and a joy to write about.
I might be able to host some...we can talk...
Lovely photos. Hope that you will continue to post through the summer, but I certainly understand the need for a break.
ReplyDeleteJane
Dear Dayle,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more on the pleasures that can be had in a simple family gathering.
So pleased you were able to enjoy your weekend with loved ones
God Bless
Gae
What beautiful girls....and those baby toes are the best!
ReplyDeleteTime with family is the most precious of all!
Gathering with family is a simple pleasure that sits on the tip top of my list. Your trio of cousins is so lovely. If I recall correctly, that's one daughter per sister, right?
ReplyDeleteThat part is pretty cool, too.
As to the party? Well, I love the party so my sin nature is being all selfish smellfish about it. I've been in a break recently trying very hard to refresh myself. Now I'm feeling pouty about any forced extension of it.
Just kidding. Well, kinda...
I said all that to say that whatever you decide that is best for YOU is best for ME. I will be here when the party comes back if I'm still blogging. In fact, I might just keep on posting simple pleasures, party or not if I can just get my groove back.
Such a sweet photo! All four girls are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can understand that you need a break from hosting the party, I imagine it can get to be a bit tying sometimes. Whatever you decide I'm sure we'll all keep checking in on you. I feel at home here!
Thank you, Kathleen.
