A conversation ensued recently, between young moms at home, and women who work outside the home, about getting a handle on household chores, without them taking over your weekend.
This conversation sent me straight back to the 80's, when I was attempting to work 40-hours a week and manage a household. I was nearly run ragged from it all and complained to a co-worker one morning. The advice she offered, literally, changed my life.
I wrote about this years later, and now I offer that article here, in an effort to help anyone struggling with this issue. Take heart. There is a way to get your housework done, and still have your weekends free. What's not to love about that?
I apologize for lack of quality, but if you click on the image (may have to click twice), it should be readable. Fingers crossed.
Happy weekend to all my blog peeps! You're a blessing.

Dayle,
ReplyDeleteIt is so true that having a plan is a great help! And keeping up with things.
I am an inveterate planner and also love efficiency. So I have done as you do, and our family enjoys a welcoming clean home! (the fact that I enjoy housework helps a great deal, too!)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dayle,
ReplyDeleteThis would have made our home a happier one as my grown daughters now tell me how much they hated the "Saturday" chores! I like the idea of the list on the refrigerator to keep everything running on track. Now, I do house work as needed everyday! :)

Great post and advice Dayle. I am glad to see someone besides me shines their leaves with oil. lol. I just did that this past week when I reworked my houseplants.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThat is perfect advice! I have recently gone from a full-time work-outside-the-home mom to a stay-at-home mom and I think, either way, a schedule makes all the difference in the world. Thank you for sharing! Good tips like this are definitely timeless. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've read my mind. I'm off to read it now.
ReplyDeleteThis takes me back to the 80's with four children under age 7, home business, while home schooling...some how we made it through without too much dirt. Now I am convicted to do some spring cleaning. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to make a plan and tackle the chores!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great list no matter what you're involved in! Love that we can keep our weekends free for more fun stuff......
ReplyDeleteThe best part of your great article . . .
ReplyDeleteWeekends free!
This is a great tip. I actually read about something similar years ago. I wish I could remember the book, but the suggestion was to make a box with a card for each day of the week and then monthly cards for bigger chores such as cleaning windows, cleaning out closets, etc. I did it for a while but through life's changes, let it slide. Thanks for the reminder! Think I'll make me a list for next week!
ReplyDeleteThis very nearly 50 year old mom is still struggling with that old 80's issue. I am definitely off to read your chart. I would much rather spend the weekend outside in the sunshine!
ReplyDeleteDayle, this is very good advice. Except for laundry I've always been one of those get up on Saturday morning and go for it types. Now I'm retired I do a little everyday and it is definitely easier. Wish I'd done it your way years ago.
ReplyDeleteThis is great information! I'm going to see if I can print it out! Hugs! ♥
